A True Story, Turned Nightmare
A few years ago, a new teen client called me for help with her skin. What started out as a quest for soft, glowy skin quickly turned into a nightmare.
She had followed the advice of a social media self-proclaimed “skin-fluencer.” Her so-called hack? Making a paste of butter, Crisco, and coconut oil and slathering it across her face for an hour or longer.
The result was devastating. Every single pore on her face was clogged. Beautiful, healthy skin destroyed by one careless wannabe ‘expert’ with zero education and even less common sense.
The destruction didn’t stop at her skin. Along with her confidence, this bargain-bin disaster caused a serious emotional impact, she became suicidal.
This is exactly why these so-called “acne hacks” infuriate me. They are completely irresponsible.
Sadly, this isn’t an isolated incident. I could write a book on the ridiculous, dangerous viral hacks I’ve seen destroy teens’ skin and their confidence. From toothpaste and lemon juice to over-the-top ‘quick fixes’ promising clear skin but more often than not, they deliver irritation, clogged pores, and heartbreak.
That’s why professional guidance matters; even some expert advice can turn into a hack job. I’ve seen supposedly trained professionals hand out recommendations that do more harm than good. So I get it, you’re confused, frustrated, and not sure who to trust when everyone seems to have a different opinion about acne.
Acne isn’t a one-size-fits-all problem, and it isn’t just a topical skin problem. It isn’t solved by following a random video or a cookie-cutter checklist system. At MV Skin Consulting, I help teens and their parents cut through the noise, understand what their body is telling them, and get customized guidance for clear and healthy skin without harsh products or gimmicks.
Acne isn’t fixed with kitchen concoctions or viral influencer stunts. Not once in my 30+ years of experience has a face ever needed something like that.
Acne is the body speaking, not a trend to chase. Effective solutions are customized to each teen, supporting the body rather than torturing it, traumatizing it, or causing more harm.
At MV Skin Consulting, I cut through the noise so teens and their parents can get the truth about acne without harsh products, medications, gimmicks, or things you could fry chicken in.
I offer Free Teen Acne Consultations for new clients because your kiddo deserves better than playing social media roulette.
P.S. It took time, but we were able to restore her skin and even more importantly, her confidence and love for life.
